Sleep: The Simplest Secret to Feeling More Joyful
When tiredness takes over, happiness fades. Learn how small moments of rest can reset your mind, body, and spirit.
When I think about happiness, it feels both complex and simple. There are so many things, people, and experiences that make us happy—and yet, even when we’re surrounded by them, we can still feel sad, irritable, or moody.
Why is that?
For me, sleep is a key component of happiness. When tiredness becomes my prevailing emotion, there’s not much space to feel anything else. I’ve learned that if I’m tired, I don’t push through the day—I stop and take a twenty-minute nap.
Why? Because I don’t see any point in showing up half-present. When I’m tired, I’m not grounded. I can’t regulate my emotions. I can’t give my fullest energy to what matters most. But when I stop, close my eyes, and allow myself to reset—even briefly—I return clearer, calmer, and more joyful.
Having Trouble Sleeping at Night?
Try shifting your bedtime into a ritual of gratitude.
Take a moment to recognize that this is your time to reset. Thank your body and your mind for carrying you through the day. Let go of the to-do list and allow yourself to fully decompress—because rest isn’t wasted time, it’s how you prepare to give your best the next day.
You can also support your sleep naturally:
Sip a calming damiana tea before bed.
Add a few magnesium drops to your evening water.
Listen to a relaxing meditation or nature sounds.
Try noise-cancelling headphones to quiet external distractions and slip into the peaceful stillness of your mind.
Sleep isn’t just about rest—it’s an act of self-respect. When we honor our need for it, happiness naturally follows.
Take a deep breath, pour yourself something soothing, and give yourself permission to do nothing for a while. Your joy begins where your rest begins.
